The purpose of the Grindrod Garlic Festival Society is:
(a) To raise awareness about and promote local food and agriculture, and economically and environmentally sustainable farming practices;
(b) To foster community spirit by organizing the Grindrod Garlic Festival;
(c) To support related local community events, community organizations, artisans and education initiatives whenever possible.
In addition to supporting various 4H and other clubs, the Grindrod Garlic Festival Society has established a grant of up to $500 to be awarded to a class within School District 83 (North Okanagan Shuswap) with a project that is aligned with the purposes of the Society.
In 2024, we only had three apply for the SD 83 Grant, had funds to award two grants and were able to secure funding through Valley First's Feed the Valley Program for one grant as well so all applicants received a grant.
Grindrod Elementary School spent theirs on equipment and plants to expand their school garden and outdoor learning spaces (pictured).
Eagle River Secondary consulted with a permaculture farmer and planted a food forest including the three sisters (corn,beans, and squash together).
MV Beattie Elementary expanded their garden beds, including bee and butterfly planters. This school works with the Enderby Garden Club to foster community involvement.
